Of this though I am sure: I miss walking to the voting booth.

Yes, mail ballots are easier.

But herein we have the same old problem - being part of a society compared to being an individual in a mathematical set.

Getting back to the gamer-generation - isolation is an increasing problem.

Social gatherings bond us to one another.

If we no longer gather in medium to large groups, but only sit in our rooms look at tiny screens, we are becoming different than what our human ancestors were.

Social unifying actions, like going to a voting booth, reinforce our group beliefs.

Now, you may remark in your best marxist tone, those group identities are what cause wars, enforced racism, etc.

Ok, yes, our need to be part of tribe has its downsides.

But that doesn’t mean we can live without the tribe. We really are social animals. We need each other. We have to belong. As humans it is part of being to belong to a group. It’s what we are.

That’s why I’m excited about where I’m living now. I’m actually a pretty shy person but I do enjoy people. I do enjoy being part of a group whether it’s a fandom of a favorite sports team or just the group experience of enjoying music or the beach. I’ve always liked voting in person too by the way. I like talking to the Democratic precinct workers. They’re Democracy at its most base form and they’re filled with people who are part of our daily lives.
