In 1975 when I was 20 I was on food stamps in Oregon. It only took a few minutes to apply and I was out the door with a booklet of stamps. My older brother and I went to a grocery store and I went in and bought the most expensive ham I could find. A few minutes later he went in with the receipt and returned it for cash. We used the cash to drive to Portland and see an Eric Clapton concert.
