I think the VP pick will be irrelevant to this election, and the only way a VP pick can have any real impact is when the choice is particularly Palin poor.

The question for Romney’s team right now is does Rob Portman put Ohio back into play? If so then I think he has to be the pick. If not then they ask the same question regarding Pawlenty - Minnesota and Rubio - Florida, except Florida’s already in play. Rubio gets last consideration because the birthers don’t think he’s a “natural born” citizen according to their contrived and esoteric definition.
