…people should go to prison…

…but people should not go to American prison as it is currently constituted.

That I can’t stand the insurrectionists doesn’t blot out that they’re going to be put into a system that brutalizes everyone for profit and justifies it as retaliation.

They’re not going to suffer proportionate to their crime, they’re going to suffer proportionate to our larger cultural understanding that people should be hurt indefinitely and disproportionately in ways that are cruel and unusual, in manners dictated by the profit margins of the private institutions that operate our carceral system.

We’re not even getting our pound of flesh, we’re just getting the pound of flesh that the butcher shop produces from all the off cuts.
