re: #172 sagehen

We don’t need a voting day holiday; just make it 10 days of voting, 8am to 8pm, and I’m pretty sure everybody can get there.

Also, a new VRA that considers things like having the ratio of machines to registered voters be the same for every congressional district within a state; those 5 hour lines at urban precincts (when it’s 20 minutes in the burbs) do as much damage as voter ID or any other disenfranchisement. (also… ex-cons who’ve done their sentence, finished with parole, shouldn’t have to jump through a lot of hoops to get their vote back. Even felons. If their sentence has been fully served, it’s been fully served, and they get to be treated like citizens again.)

I’m pretty sure 10 days of voting is way more expensive than just one single day of paid vacation. The focus of a voting holiday(for me) is on the low income segment of the population, not the lazy. But I’m totally on board with a new VRA, those 5 hour lines are by design in some cases, and I’ve never understood why people who’ve served their sentence can’t vote.
