Facebook is going to start ranking news outlets by trustworthiness. That ranking will be based on user surveys.

They’re not going to pay news outlets to carry news, though. Zuckerberg says “that doesn’t make sense.” (He compares it to news outlets paying large carriage fees to cable companies.)

He also says they are putting into place a system to prevent screwing with the mid-term elections, by requiring an advertiser to use a government-issued ID to have a code mailed to a US address via the US Postal Service.

He also says he has tens of thousands of people to vet posts. (We’ve seen how well that works already.)

He also says he is quite concerned about so-called fake news and the company is developing AI software to deal with it. That is still ten years away though. (Wonderful.)
