I think you mean lower ceiling, but yeah. Support for him has almost nothing to do with his performance. The Bushes had high highs and low lows because not that many people actually liked them. They did a pretty good job at a crucial time and so were very popular, but then when things went south they didn’t really have much to fall back on. GWB was more personally popular than his old man, but still.

Trump, OTOH, has failed to deliver on anything he promised, apart from treating nonwhites like shit. But then, that’s what they worship him for.
