One thing we seem to constantly underestimate: Yes, Republicans are universally soulless, with absolutely no desire for anything except to enrich themselves and give themselves more power. But court justices are cut from a little bit different cloth. In a federal courtroom, the judge is God; they don’t need to enhance their own power, they have all of it. As a result, even the more wingnutty ones tend to rule with careful thought and consideration. We’re being surprised by the courts’ lack of action on Trump’s absurd claims, but that’s because courtrooms are more of a politics-free zone than even Trump realizes.
