Well the party did everything it could to maintain neutrality. It not only allowed Sanders to run, it did so in a primary season that is actually geared to help outsiders do better than they would normally. He even received benefits from the party that helped him run his campaign.

Good lord, this is how we lose elections, spending days second-guessing ourselves because we worry what the neighbors will think. Either we totally devote ourselves to neutrality no matter how badly Sanders shellacs the party or else we dump our dirty laundry on the front lawn for everybody to get a whiff.

Not suggesting a firing squad, but anyone dicking around with Nixonian dirty tricks should have been slapped upside the head when they opened their mouths. That’s leadership.
