New York law requires any charity that raises more than $25,000 a year from the public to have a specific registration, and such groups must go through annual audits.
The Post reported that the Donald J. Trump Foundation, which has raised millions from donors outside the Trump family, has never obtained such a certification.
The Trump Foundation is based in New York, and state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman could order the foundation to stop raising funds if he finds it in violation of the laws. A court could also order Trump to return any past donations.
