When you’re rich, it’s not “theft” it’s “embezzlement”. It’s much easier to call someone a thief than it is to call them an embezzler. It likely has to do with the fact that “thief” is an easy, single syllable word. Whereas embezzler is a three syllable word. For whatever reason, when we speak, we tend towards simpler words. They are easier to communicate and to understand.

But this is completely different, Chaffetz and others seem to be acting like a rich person could or would NEVER do something illicit or unethical for money because their wealth somehow makes everything they do ethical or good. Like…you know the Nixonism, “If the president does it, it’s not illegal”? It’s like that. “If a rich person profits off something, it’s can’t be wrong”.
