I read that Independent article….and I agree that it’s no longer merely a case of Trump lying, as that’s the norm for him, but that he’s becoming outright delusional as his ego crumbles.

That bit in the article about “shared psychosis” reminds me of a theme William Shirer alluded to in “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”, namely that he noticed during his time in Nazi Germany how the Nazi ideology seemed to be spreading like a virus, infecting otherwise normal and seemingly rational people.

Trumpism seems to be the same sort of virus, a mental contagion that has spread to a sizable segment of the American population. Trump, like Hitler before him, seems to excel at drawing people into his delusions.

Shirer called Hitler’s Weltanschauung a “grotesque hodgepodge concocted by a half-baked, uneducated neurotic”. He could just as easily have been speaking about Trump and his insane ideas.
