Eric Clapton as a musician, well, as a guitarist myself I can’t help but admire the guy’s accomplishments. I mean, he’s Eric Clapton, synonymous with guitar playing greatness. We can quibble all we want about technique, his theft of American blues (and other rock star’s wives), etc. etc., you can’t deny what he’s done in his life.

He also said in public at one of his shows in England in the 70s that England was a white country and darker skinned people were not welcome and needed to leave. He was very explicit in his remarks, I don’t care how drunk he was. He’ll never live that down in my mind, he’s a racist bellend. His garbage covid stance is just more grist for the mill.

Both of these states of mind can exist at the same time, I assure you.

Some people, for various shitty reasons, can make it real hard to separate the art from the artist (also see: Kevin Spacey, William Shatner, and on and on)
