The GOP did this to themselves, by opposing equal rights, women’s reproductive freedom / slut shaming, scapegoating hispanics & preventing immigration reform, blocking sensible tax policy, and deciding defense spending was sacrosanct. They didn’t just do some things wrong, they did everything wrong. They’re on the wrong side of history.

Think back just a few years ago, could marriage equality have won in four out of four states it was on the ballot? Of course not, ten years ago it was an impossible dream in any state. This was a watershed election, and people both young and old, just aren’t buying into the same old bigoted, narrow minded bullshit anymore.

The GOP is desperate to think that their loss might be the result of anything external to themselves. But it’s not, it’s who.they.are. They’re blaming the hurricane, Akin and Mourdock, Mitt’s performance, anything to keep from confronting the fact that the Republican platform, the brand, is intrinsically awful. It’s a horrible golem made of rage against religious and ethnic minorities, abortion, and fundamental misunderstandings about how the economy actually works.
