re: #174 Hecuba’s daughter

My RW brother supported DeVos (of course) because American student perform abysmally in testing compared to their counterparts elsewhere. The solution he said is to return school control to parents and local boards. When I point out that the our competitors have a single nationwide curriculum, it’s *crickets* and back to parents are all experts at knowing the ideal school program.

The local knows best approach to education sounds all well and good on paper until you realize that as our kids get older, they will be competing with students from around their state, country, and even globally to get into universities. I’m fine with some differentiation on some subject matters, i.e. more focus on the colonial period in states that were the 13 colonies or on Westward expansion in Western states but things like mathematics and science should have a near universal curriculum from here in Virginia to Alaska.
