“Fitness” is different for a human in the modern world than for a crinoid in the Ordovician period. For every Duggar who gets a TV show, there are a million offspring of these quiverfull maniacs who’ll wind up on welfare and paying no taxes, while whining about “their taxes” going to “welfare queens” in the blue states that subsidize them, and voting for politicians who want to eliminate welfare. One can only hope that this is not a sustainable evolutionary strategy.

It is not a sustainable strategy, it is a freak show. Those things flourish for a while and then disappear into the history books.
