The vote count. The court would be deciding whether to invalidate the election.

If electors don’t have to follow the popular vote count, then the vote count is irrelevant.

Now, I struggle to believe that multiple states would actually do this, because it could very well lead to extremely violent protests, but the possibility is there on a theoretical basis, and the WI and NC state legislatures have shown no qualms about enacting legislation that runs directly counter to the “will of the people”.
