Once you go Wegmans, you never go back. And I’ve been in most of those. We actually make a point to go into supermarkets on our vacations to see what kind of local food is available.

Also interesting is that the supermarkets that top the list are also among those that treat their workers best. Wegmans is particularly known for that, as is Costco. So too is Trader Joe’s.

My new favorite is The Fresh Market. They have an incredible bakery among other wonderful things. (They have a brioche bread loaf that is unbelievable—at about $6 a throw, it should be. French toast made with it is almost too good to believe. And their cranberry/walnut biscotti is—damn, I think I need to run to the grocery store!)
