And even though I am the evil liberal (there can be only one in this county), all my money was still in the wallet. The county clerk walked my wallet over to the sheriff, and they held it for me until I got back from Scottsbluff.

Mostly all the sheriff has to do here is wrangle cattle that get loose on the highway; a lost wallet is a big deal here.

Reminds me of Chief Jesse Stone’s line that mostly he just writes parking tickets.
