I’m continually flabbergasted by the shrinkage of acceptably “white” ethnicities. I grew up in the 50s and 60s in what I’m sure would be considered a lily-white suburb. Now I know every racist says something like this—but we’re all friends here, right?—I went to school with kids of every conceivable nationality on earth except African American, and looking back now, I know a huge fraction of those kids are not “white” any more…. It’s really discouraging.

Very interesting. I wonder how that changes by region. I’ve seen mostly the opposite here where folks like the Parkland shooter can even “pass”. Passing of course has an incredibly fascinating history.

The U.S. codified definition of white has pretty much been a history of expanding it to include other westerners.
