Interesting, did not know that. The German settlers did take quite a beating in Texas during the Civil War.

One side of my family were Germans that settled along the Kansas-Missouri border in the 1840-1870 period.

And yes, the Civil War in the Missouri/Arkansas region was pretty much a brutal ethnic war between the English who moved in from the South and the later arriving German settlers. The only reason the Germans won there, was because there were a lot more Germans than English in the Missouri/Arkansas/Kansas region

When Texas put up the vote for secession and joining the Confederacy, the German areas were the only ones that voted to stay in the Union. As you can imagine, that didn’t sit to well with those who created the state for slavery.
