There is not enough gold in the world to cover the US’s nut at this point. It’s an absurd idea that refuses to die.

Gold standard and withdrawing depositor insurance are too laughable policies that foreign banks would just *love* to see the US do.

The first would simply cause monstrous financial issues as the country moved to it, and then found itself unable to handle it along with the value fluctuations. And the foreign banks could simply manipulate it for their own gain.

Getting rid of depositor insurance would trigger a run on banks by anyone realizing that their savings are no longer protected from bank fraud, bankruptcy, etc. etc. Which would cause even more damage. And foreign banks could pick up the slack, or realize how easily they could get away with fraud since how does the US catch and punish them effectively?
