In a different musical genre - I saw a band move me both ways once in a single concert: The Grateful Dead. I was lukewarm to the invitation, but went anyway. When they hit the stage, they really hit it - they were tight, focused, extremely high energy and actually made me want to buy one of their albums. Way better than any recordings I had heard them do.

This went on for about twenty minutes. Then they took a long break, and the drugs either kicked in or they did some more - or both - and when they came back they launched into an hour-long, rambling ad lib of what sounded like random notes and drumbeats, without a melody or even a key in sight.

You sure it wasn’t Phish?
