Stabbing rampage started as students were arriving. One student pulled a fire alarm once they saw what was happening, alerting authorities.

Not good at all, but the assailant is now in custody, so we’ll get some idea why he went on the rampage.

Thoughts and prayers to the families of those injured in the attacks (the injured range in age from 14 to 17). Four of those attacked were in serious enough condition to require airlifting to hospital in critical condition.

More details:

The injured students’ ages range from 14 to 17. Students are being treated at Allegheny General Hospital, Forbes Regional, UPMC East and UPMC Presbyterian.

Just before 7:15 a.m., a school resource officer asked for medical assistance at the school for a stabbing. The students were injured in several classrooms and in the hallways before the classes started, Mr. Stevens said.

Parents of the injured students are being contacted. Parents of other students are asked to go to Heritage Elementary, also in Murrysville, to pick up their children.

Police, emergency crews and school buses lined the entrance to the school this morning. A stretcher was loaded into an ambulance around 8:15 a.m.
