The kosher grocery down the road will be open—most folks in my community have their big turkey dinner on Friday night, instead of tonight. My son introduced this custom last year in Alabama. What happened is that everybody had their usual Thursday Thanksgiving dinner at home, then showed up at his house for Second Thanksgiving.
I can deal with the concept of grocery stores being open for last-minute items, but I do not think that ravenous consumer gluttony is part of the spirit of the holiday.
