His glee at encouraging mayhem and harm to others makes it hard for me to make that leap, although I see what you are saying.

If he were happy, I can’t imagine him (or anyone) taking joy in gratuitous cruelty. He is apparently very, very needy and thinks happiness is a zero sum game.
