One of my first oral arguments, I thought I had done pretty well, until I watched a tape and heard myself saying “uh” over and over again. Ugh.

Don’t feel bad, even Obama had the “uh” verbal tick. We’re programmed to not like silence, so we use “uh” and “um” and “well” and “like” to fill the dead air.
