I don’t know why it became such a focus. I’m confident in assuming Luther inherited it from his former Catholic upbringing.

That said, he made it worse, arguing for things like seizing Jewish property, execution of Jews for being Jewish, &c.

Luther was a rapid opponent of a peasants revolt, and advocated murdering the peasants without mercy.
Something we should all try to emulate.
