It has to be more than closing the gun show loophole. It has to be illegal for anyone to handle a gun unless they pass a background check and have a valid license; no guns given as gifts or inherited except by those with a valid gun license; and licenses should last no more than 3 years and require renewal. There must also be harsh penalties for anyone involved in straw purchases.

As to ghost guns — why cannot those be outlawed nationwide? Anyone involved in the manufacture or sale or transfer of such weapons should face a stiff prison sentence.

I’m not sure how you could enforce the background check proposal on your average Joe or Jane loaning their hunting rifle to their friend for the afternoon, but we gotta start someplace.

Red flag laws would certainly cut down on domestic murders. I’m all in on banning giving firearms (or other weapons) as gifts without some sort of training or license.

I’m all for taking the NRA’s own safety rules and making them laws with penalties.
