We did, in fact, negotiate with the King. That is what the Treaty of Paris of 1783 was, a negotiated end to the war. We didn’t carry it to Britain’s shores (aside from a few daring raiding parties), and so negotiation was the only possible way to end it.

But that’s the real world and real US history, and doesn’t involve enough piss and coyotes.
