I’ve known some people like Ms Laurel. They have a strange reverence for “Mother Earth,” as if she were some kind of beneficent creature at all times. But Mom Earth (aka Mother Nature) can also be capricious. Tornadoes can turn your house into kindling, hurricanes can rip the roof off, and floodwaters can make it uninhabitable. Not to mention, Mother Nature can kill you.
