Side note: Pilot Bertrand Piccard is the grandson of Auguste Piccard, the balloonist, and the son of Jacques Piccard, who took the bathyscaphe Trieste to the bottom of the Challenger Deep in 1960.

My eye caught the name ‘Piccard’ and I wondered, “Did Roddenberry use these people as inspiration for the Captain of the Enterprise E?”
