However, what Sollima — or anyone involved with the movie — could never have predicted was that it would be released at a moment when the topic of borders and immigration are dominating the news cycle and social media.

When one gets to make a feature film as a director or producer or writer, you are in control of many many things. Current events are not one of them. It’s just a movie. Should they have held it back? Worse not better IMO.
