And when Adams was president, I doubt Tommy J stiffened any of his policies. I particularly remember some disagreement on the Alien and Sedition Acts. (but that was was when the VP slot was for the runner up).

That animosity… and it was animosity .. spilled over to recess appointments, including one Marbury to the courts. The Supreme Court ruled in Marbury v. Madison (Madison being Jefferson’s Secretary of State) that courts have the power of judicial review and the ability to invalidate laws of Congress that violate the Constitution.
