THIS is what I mean when I talk about a culture that instills impunity.

How self-involved do you have to be to not consider the implications…but also afterwards characterize what happened as a kind of individual journey of error and repentance?

And I’m not saying that because I think he needs to be punished extra hard…fuck, the thing this country doesn’t need is harsher penal system…but because he speaks to a shared mindset—comorbid in white supremacy, nationalism, theological chauvinism, etc—that’s driving this shit.
