The problem stems from the 1960s and Cronkite was a big part of making it happen with his Vietnam is lost speech. Once the media realized they could in fact influence current events instead of just reporting on them, they lost any credibility. It just snowballed over the years and Rather was the result. They truly believe they know what is best for America and by golly they are going to make it happen.

This is exactly what I mean when I say that the establishment media are not the free press of the Founding Fathers, but an un-elected and unaccountable shadow government.
