Back in the 70s the majority of scientists were discussing global warming, not global cooling. That talking point has been refuted here a number of times.

The satirical SF novel Fallen Angels portrayed a dystopian world ruled by ineffectual and superstitious Green luddites. By the time of the action, the world was in the grip of a new ice age, but the background cited global warming fears and CO2 pollution as the explanation for the Greens’s rise to absolute power.
It was written in 1991, so AGW was a prominent enough issue even then to have made it into popular awareness.
