My dad is a conservative Catholic who hasn’t voted for the GOP on a national level since Reagan, mainly over the issue of separation of church and state. Because he’s conservative, and separation of church and state, while practiced imperfectly, is a long traditional US value.

He’s voted for some saner GOP types on the state and local level.

In my parents bedroom there is a picture of Jesus and one of Mary..Between them is a picture of my dad shaking hands with JFK.
