This is actually largely what Clinton’s been doing - not fighting for the news cycle, not even handing Trump enough rope. Just standing back, doing rallies and commercials, and not getting into any of Trump’s dominance games.

Trump wanted to ‘be himself’ in the General, and it hasn’t been working, so not he’s brought in people who think he has to REALLY be himself.

Honestly, I could not have imagined this campaign going quite this weird. I figured there was more to Trump, and I feared a teeth-and-nails fight, and maybe a possible narrow loss. But if that happened, it would have been because Trump was not as stupid and crazy as he seems. Maybe just a louder and uglier Mitt Romney. That might not have been such a disaster.

The thing is, it’s now clear that Trump is both crazier and stupider than I imagined, which means that although his chance of winning is RADICALLY lower than I feared, the results of him winning would also be far, FAR worse than anything I’d imagined.
