re: #64 The Ghost of a Flea
It’s a detail from the right panel Hieronymous Bosch’s triptych “Garden of Earthly Delights.” It’s a bit unclear what his intent was with the whole painting, but the right panel is Hell, and all the stuff is allegorical representations of sins and the apt punishment.
Though I must confess that I have no idea how all the crazy detail (for example, bird-head has clay pots on its feet and a cauldron on its head) is “read.”
I’m still cogitating on the significance of the blackbirds flying out of the ass of the person being devoured headfirst by birdhead.
