The copy protection hacks were fun. One of the floppy disk tricks was to put a piece of sticky tape on the disk sleeve that stuck out of the drive, then when the boot program tried to read the bad sectors on the disk (the copy protection trick), you’d pull on the tape to cause the drive’s read/write head to sort of skew, and that generated the same kind of disk error and let you copy the disk.
