It is for reasons like this that I live the relatively ascetic life that I do. Priority #1 is to completely eliminate any and all sources of debt (I’m on track to pay off the house, the last bit of it, within the next two years). At that point? Employer can be as big of a scumbag as they want to be (and believe me, they want to be enormous ones), they won’t have any real power over me. And that’s worth more than all the trinkets and grown-up toys in the world.

In other news: Greetings from the frozen wasteland of Georgia. Governor Deal swears up and down that we’ll be better prepared “next time” — funny, I kind of remember hearing that two years ago, the last time an ice storm caught this shithole state unawares. Apparently “putting down salt and rocks on dry road is a waste of resources”. Gotta love the deep south: So long as we don’t have to pay any taxes, we’ll gladly let the entire damn state shut down over a freaking inch of snow.

Yes, welcome to the club. : ) I no longer own a house, no longer have credit cards and can live, if not luxuriously, on my SS. I get the added bonus of having a grandson and g-grandson living here, too, and the benefits they convey.
