I repeat: Saudi Arabia is no friend to the United States. We fawn over and support them because we need their cooperation and their resources. We hesitate to inflame their delicate sensibilities, no matter how inflammatory their behavior. It takes a lot of mental gymnastics to call them our ally, but every administration in recent memory goes through those contortions.

FWIW The United States has yet to rise to the level of how Saudi and Russian dissidents are hunted and silenced, but I believe if we continue with the current administration, it’s likely. We currently have all the self proclaimed ‘monarchs in high places’ necessary to ignore the rule of law, and they become more emboldened by the hour.
