A historian with a nitpick about the Netflix Daredevil series:

So, I read this nitpick, and it reminds me of the nitpicking we physics guys do of science fiction shows and movies, not to mention comic books. There is no law that says literature must completely hew to historical fact (or known science, for that matter). We can nitpick all we like, but Daredevil is set in an imaginary universe that’s only marginally connected to the one we inhabit. So what if the TV Daredevil’s Hell’s Kitchen is a Gotham-like den of vice, corruption and poverty and the real one isn’t anymore? This is the same universe where Thor is an extraterrestrial, a genetically modified spider gave a teenager superpowers, and a selfish rich dude built a red-and-gold suit of armor to help people. In this universe, Hell’s Kitchen never got gentrified. Now shut up, I’m trying to listen to the movie here.

Speaking of Iron Man, here’s a physics nitpick to ponder: inertia does not seem to exist for Tony Stark. He gets slammed around something awful in that suit of his, but somehow he never suffers any serious injuries. In reality, in a major impact his suit might be fine, but Tony inside would be a goopy mess. Just because the suit has stopped moving doesn’t mean all of Tony’s insides have. Ask any pro football player.

Now I’ll shut up, and listen to the movie.
