I remember Romania in particular. Nikolae Ceausescu sang the Internationale while he and his wife Elena waited to be shot. Madame Ceausescu’s final words to the firing squad were reportedly, “Boys, I was like a mother to you!”
Unimpressed with either performance, the soldiers shot them anyway. There were reportedly hundreds of volunteers for the firing squad.
From what I recall reading about that one, once those two got outside and more or less positioned in front of the wall, the firing squad just starting blasting away.
