Someone tried the ‘not a referendum’ thing last night. I don’t think it worked.

Fivethirtyeight says Moore’s loss was about a third unfavorable national political environment (a deeply unpopular president), a third Moore’s pre-sex scandal problems, and a third the child molestation charges, which combined to make it possible to bring down Moore in deep red Alabama. Republicans running next year in much less favorable states and districts than Alabama could be brought down by the national political environment and their own problems alone.
