Yep: Black Monday ‘87: I recall calling a friend of mine who was working at Merrill Lynch then to chat, and having her hang up on me in a panic, yelling that the Dow was down 500 points (on a then 2200-point index), and thinking that she was definitely over-the-top, and had to be exaggerating. Which of course, then as now, was no odd condition for Wall-Streeters.
Until I saw the day’s results: a still-record 22.61% drop in one trading session. Man, they did things right in the Olden Days……
Yes, I recall how stock-market crazy people were getting in the mid-80’s…
