Students also get a chuckle out of the big hair of the ’80s. What were people thinking back then?

I remember celebrating New Year’s Eve in 1979, I had shoulder-length hair hanging down, my trendy buddy joked, “In five minutes, your hairstyle will be two decades out of fashion!”

So I spent most of the 80’s shedding my jeans and flannels and cutting my hair, only to find the style come back in the 90’s…but by then my hair was too thin to wear it long.

But the lesson has stuck: to thine own fashion sense be true.

I never gelled my hair, nor will I even let the stuff near my head.
