re: #180 dangerman

i know i keep beating this horse:

- we have never known the outcome of elections immediately
- the AP the networks (ie news organizations) make predictions as to how the count will eventually turn out and the official from each state will certify sometime later.
- we have accepted this action by the media as somehow official
- mostly because i dont think they’ve ever been wrong (as far as i can remember)
certainly about the election as a whole, and probably also as to each individual state
- and because it’s never mattered before

nothing that happens on election night is binding.
anybody ‘calling’ or ‘declaring’ anything on election night is just meaningless theater.
always has been actually.

we should think this way from now on.

I think the first time that the media called a state “wrong” (or, in this case, too early) was in 2000 with FL. They overcompensated in ‘08 by insisting on waiting long after most experts had called places like OH because they didn’t want another last-minute change in the totals to foul their calls.
