Remember when Christianity was convinced that the first Millennium was going to see the End of the World?

The figure named Christ was an amalgam of Jewish street-corner preachers prophesying the Millenium right now and then, not in a thousand years from then. Those sorts of preachers were a dime a dozen at that time. The Jewish people suffered great tribulations from the Roman conquest and that was proof of the End Times and God was going to make it all stop real soon. Some time. Just you wait. Really. Honest.

Moving the goalposts in Christianity has been going on for a long time now. I don’t know how prophecy works in other major religions though.
